UNICEF France Accepts DAI Tokens For Donations

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) France has recently announced that they will now allow donations to be made in DAI cryptocurrency, making a total of 10 cryptocurrencies that can be donated to the organization.

The press release says,

Donations made in Dai to UNICEF France will go to creating bounties and funding research for open source tech and infrastructure projects, to help the world’s most vulnerable people. No amount is too small.

UNICEF has gone out of their way to create a venture initiative that invests in emerging technologies to solve worldwide problems. According to information provided on their website, blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) have been on their watch list for quite a while. Dignity Network was developed with the idea of educating the youth and creating a youth-composed “blockchain communities” that can help with solving problems for local challenges.

During 2018, UNICEF France had decided to accept donations in cryptocurrency, those being Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, EOS, DASH, LiteCoin, Ripple, Monero, and Stellar.

Sebastian Lyon, Director of UNICEF France, has stated previously that cryptocurrency has massive potential to assist development efforts,

“Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology used for charitable purposes offer a new opportunity to appeal to the generosity of the public and continue to develop our operations with children in the countries of intervention.”

Blockchain lead of UNICEF Ventures, Christina Lomazzo, commented during an interview that crypto donations conducted through DAI can fund the Venture’s blockchain development community,

“When UNICEF France offered to put these Dai donations into global bounties, that’s really where we began to see an alignment with our plans. The overall goal is to get these early startups to a point where UNICEF Ventures or other venture funds can consider investing in them. This may just be one small step towards early funding possibilities, but it’s a really important one.”

Our Thoughts

Cryptocurrency donations cane go a long way in helping someone out. DAI tokens acceptance by UNICEF France will lead towards even more people getting involved in helping relief efforts and hopefully make someones day much better than before. Crypto donations continues to grow and hopefully more charity run organizations will accept cryptocurrency in the coming future.
