Facebook seems to be showings its hand for a brand new blockchain strategy.
Previously during May, Facebook announced to the world that the social media giant would create a new division solely dedicated to researching ways for the company to leverage blockchain technology. Currently, a series of job listing have revealed new details on Facebooks future plans.
The company has set up over five blockchain-related job listing, as of December 10th. These listing include a data scientist, data engineer, two software engineers and product marketing lead. The job descriptions outline Facebook’s true goals for bringing blockchain to the mainstream, which includes the potential to bring equitable financial services” to billions of users.
“The blockchain team is a startup within Facebook, with a vision to make blockchain technology work at Facebook scale. We’re exploring areas of interest across all facets of blockchain technology. Our ultimate goal is to help billions of people with access to things they don’t have now – that could be things like equitable financial services, new ways to save, or new ways to share information.”
Product marketing lead states as its job descriptions that blockchain has become “fundamental” to the company’s core mission.
“Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities. Our blockchain team is fundamental to that mission and we are seeking an experienced leader to build and manage a new product marketing team focused in exploring the opportunity the blockchain will bring.”
Facebook recent interesting ins blockchain had the former Coinbase board member David Marcus become the head of the new blockchain team. Previously, Marcus was head of Facebook’s messaging app Messenger. Instagram’s former VP of product, Kevin Weil, has also becoming a member of the new blockchain team.
What was once a rumor has now finally become the truth. Facebook, one of the biggest social media company around, has finally decide to throw its hat into the ring for blockchain technology. Considering the success this company has had in the past and the massive amount of wealth it has behind it to continue funding such researchers, it going to be quite interesting to see what they manage to develop with this new blockchain crew.
